Grant cycles
The cycles for the byway grants have generally occurred on an annual basis. Typically, applicants submit their applications to the State or Indian tribe byway coordinator. Applications are then reviewed by the coordinator and submitted to the FHWA Division Offices. FHWA Division staff review and provide comment on applications. Eligible applications are then submitted to the Office of Environment, Planning, and Realty at the FHWA's headquarters in Washington, DC.
Applications are reviewed and ranked internally. Awards are selected by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation.
