Examples of Grant Applications

Good Example of an Abstract/Project Description:

This project includes the design, fabrication, and installation of trailblazer and wayfinding signs, information boards, interpretive panels, and/or kiosks for byways that have completed corridor management plans or will have plans completed later this year.  This project combines many smaller signage related projects and a few larger interpretive projects on 14 byways across the state of Idaho.  See the following website for a listing of current corridor management plans:  http://itd.idaho.gov/planning/byways/scenic/.  Also see http://www.idahobyways.gov for the Idaho Byways website.

This project benefits the byway traveler by providing directional wayfinding signage, information, and/or interpretation at byway points of interest.  Proper wayfinding is a necessary part of an enjoyable traveler experience.  Trailblazer/wayfinding signs will keep the traveler on track.  Interpretive panels educate and inform the traveler about each byway’s intrinsic qualities along the byway. In addition, it is hoped that a greater appreciation of the byways will result and instill in the visitor a desire to protect the intrinsic values the byways have to offer.

This is a good example because it:

  • Is simple and well-focused
  • Summarizes specifically what the project will do (i.e., the design, fabrication, and installation of trailblazer and wayfinding signs, information boards, interpretive panels, and/or kiosks)
  • Describes what the benefit to the byway traveler will be
  • Only provides the information the reviewer needs to determine eligibility
  • Requests funding for a large-scale (statewide), high-cost project that will provide strategic benefits to the State’s byways
