Examples of Grant Applications

Less Successful Example of a Narrative/Project Summary:

This project will allow the Byway to continue implementation of our CMP by having dedicated personnel whose primary role is oversight of byway activities, projects, and grant administration.  This part time coordinator carries out duties developed and approved by the Byway management team.  Having such a person allows the byway to administer the grants and projects in a more timely fashion as this person’s time is dedicated to the byway and not part of additional job responsibilities.

This project benefits the byway traveler by ensuring the integrity of our CMP is upheld.  This allows for the intrinsic qualities inherent along the byway and identified in our CMP to be enjoyed by all byway users.

This example is less successful because it:

  • References funding for general project management rather than the management of specific projects in the CMP to be funded by the NSBP.  In preparing your application, please keep in mind that salary requests for a byway coordinator or general administration of all projects and programs identified in a byway’s corridor management plan are not considered eligible expenses for NSBP funding unless the time devoted is directly related to the performance of a specific project(s) identified in the CMP and can be documented
  • Does not provide specifics on what will be accomplished nor make a compelling case for why the project should be funded
